TEHRAN – Following reports that two Iranian nationals have been arrested in Italy Rome’s ambassador to Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry on Thursday.

Iranian television journalist Hamid Masoumi Nejad, based in Rome, along with another Iranian were detained on Wednesday on charges of smuggling arms and explosives to Iran.
“We pursue the issue vigorously,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said.
Mehmanparast said reports released about the arrest of Iranian nationals shows that “a new play” is being done with “ambiguous purposes.”
“To seek explanation and finding about the pros and cons of the issue we have summoned Italian ambassador to Tehran and pursue the issue vigorously,” Mehmanparast noted.
The Iranian national television said Masoumi Nejad had been arrested because he covered an “anti-racism demonstration in Italy” on Tuesday
