Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping Manchester United can find a suitable replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar.
The Red Devils are set to see their veteran goalkeeper hang up his gloves at the end of the season, as he brings the curtain down on a glittering career.Finding a new number one has now become a priority for Ferguson, with United having struggled in the keeping department in the past.
Once they parted company with the legendary Peter Schmeichel in 1999, it took them six years to plug the gap.
Ferguson is hoping there will be no repeat of those struggles this time around, with it imperative that the position is covered as quickly as possible.
He said: ""I hope it's not impossible because we had a similar situation with Peter Schmeichel when he left and I had the opportunity to sign Edwin then but the situation conspired against us.
""We made the wrong decision but, since we've had him, he's been unbelievable.""
It will not just be on the field that Van der Sar will be greatly missed at Old Trafford, with his presence in the dressing room not to be underestimated.
""Van der Sar is one of the best,"" Ferguson added following United's crucial 1-0 victory over Everton on Saturday.
""To see hear him at half-time motivating the players was absolutely wonderful.""
