Real Madrid are lining up a summer bid of £25 million for Manchester United winger Nani.
Jose Mourinho is keen to add to Real’s Portuguese contingent at the Bernabeu which already includes Ricardo Carvalho, Pepe, Cristiano Ronaldo plus the former Chelsea manager and his staff. The bid would be handled by Portuguese superagent Jorge Mendes who has overseen many of the big name transfers to the Champions League semi-finalists.
Nani, 24, cost United £22 million from Sporting Lisbon in 2007 and has 15 months to run on his current contract.
He wasn't an instant hit at Old Trafford and was a bit part player for much of his first three seasons at the club.
But he has blossomed since the departure of Ronaldo to Real in 2009 and has enjoyed his best campaign for the Red Devils this year.
Comfortable on either wing his speed and footwork have made him an Old Trafford favourite, scoring 12 times including several spectacular long efforts. He was shortlisted for the Professional Footballers’ Association Young Player of the Year award, but missed out to Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.
However, the return to fitness of fellow winger Antonio Valencia, following a long lay-off with a serious ankle injury, could persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to sell if he felt the price was right.
