TEHRAN - Persepolis football team was held to a 1-1 draw by Malavan at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in the first week of the Iran Professional League (IPL) on Tuesday night.

In the match held at the Azadi Stadium in front of about 40,000 spectators, Alireza Daghaghele put the visiting team in the lead in the 73rd minute. Substitute Hossein Badamaki equalized five minutes later with a long- range shot.
“We played well in both halves but didn’t take our chances. Persepolis needs time to play better. We dominated possession but lacked a cutting edge in the match,” Persepolis coach Hamid Estili said in the post-match news conference.
