Majlis praises culture ministry over well-organized ITBF

TEHRAN – The Cultural Committee of the Majlis has thanked the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance for its appropriate arrangements during the 28th Tehran International Book Fair (TBIF).
Culture Minister Ali Jannati, TIBF Director Seyyed Abbas Salehi and the MPs met on Tuesday to discuss the TBIF.

The TIBF was held with the motto “Reading, Dialogue with the World” from May 6 to 16.


Rudaki Hall to host Iranian regional music festival

TEHRAN – The 2nd Ayeneh-Dar Regional and Ritual Music Festival will be held at Tehran’s Rudaki Hall from June 6 to 9.

Over 120 artists mainly from the southern provinces of Khuzestan, Bushehr and Hormozgan will perform at the festival.


“Flora and Ulysses” published in Persian

TEHRAN – American writer of children’s fiction Kate DiCamillo’s “Flora and Ulysses”, a comic superhero tale featuring a deadly vacuum cleaner and a mighty squirrel, has recently been published in Persian by Ofoq company.

Rendered into Persian by Keyvan Abidi-Ashtiani, the novel tells the story of Flora Belle Buckman and a squirrel named Ulysses through a series of full-page and smaller illustrations by K.G. Campbell.

Earlier in January 2014, “Flora and Ulysses” won the John Newbery Medal for the best work of the year in children’s literature.


Iranian translator working on “The Buried Giant”

TEHRAN - Iranian translator Soheil Sommi is working on “The Buried Giant”, the seventh novel by the British novelist of Japanese origin, Kazuo Ishiguro.

The book tells the story of an old British couple, Axl and Beatrice, living in a time when people seem to be unable to perceive the past clearly.

Originally published in March 2015, its Persian edition is slated to be released by Qoqnus Publication.


Iranian animations screened at SICAF

Three Iranian short animations were screened at the 19th Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (SICAF), which ends today.

The animations, which were also produced by the Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, are “When I Was a Child” directed by Maryam Kashkulinia, “Hairy” by Hadi Tabasi and Rasul Zarrin and “Grandfather” by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi.


Cineastes meet IRIB director

TEHRAN – A number of Iranian filmmakers and producers met with the director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Mohammad Sarafraz on Wednesday.

The cineastes including Habibollah Kasesaz, Ali Sartippi, Puran Derakhshandeh and Masud Atyabi asked Sarafraz for increased collaboration between cinema and television.

They also held talks about how the two media can expand cooperation and also discussed the support of television in purchasing the copyrights of films.
