TEHRAN – Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has expressed hope that Iran and the 5+1 group of world powers would be able to conclude the long-awaited nuclear deal, the framework of which was drawn in the Swiss city of Lausanne in April 2015.

“We renew our call on neighboring Iran to cooperate with the international community and to respond to the efforts of countries in the region for building good neighborly relations,” the emir told the OIC foreign ministerial meeting in Kuwait on Wednesday.

In a meeting with Zarif on Tuesday, Kuwait’s foreign minister also voiced support for nuclear talks between Iran and the 5+1 group, saying a lasting nuclear agreement will be conducive to regional stability and security.

During their meeting, the two top diplomats also discussed the latest regional developments, including the conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Iraq and emphasized the need for concerted action against terrorist groups, particularly ISIL.

For his part, Zarif said Tehran is seeking to expand relations with Kuwait in all fields.
