TEHRAN – An exhibition entitled “Mr. President” will be held at Tehran’s Tarrahan-e Azad Gallery with a focus on the concept of president in Iran.

A collection of works including installations, video arts, paintings and sculptures created by 18 artists will go on display in the exhibit, which will open on Friday, curator Mehrdad Moheb-Ali told the Persian service of Honaronline on Monday.

“I do not believe that in all parts of the world there is a single specific definition for ‘president’. The presidency is actually a position that one individual holds. This position has not been created by that person, but has been formed by events surrounding that person. That is why in all parts of the world, the concept of presidency is a democratic symbol rather than a democratic truth,” he said.

He also added, “In the past decade, the issue of presidency has been an important topic for the people of Iran since the character of a president has been a symbol of free ideas”.

Most of the artists invited have worked on social-political themes in their previous works and each participating artist will display only one work, he added.

Rozita Sharaf-Jahan, Khosrow Khosravi, Reza Abedini, Farhad Fozuni, Nikzad Nojumi, Karim Nasr and Behnam Kamrani are the Iranian artists.

“Syrian artist Omran Younes has also been invited to attend the exhibit,” he said.

The exhibit will be running until July 7 at the gallery, which can be found at 5 Salmas Square, off Fatemi St.
