TEHRAN - A lawyer to elite Iranian pilot Captain Hushang Shahbazi has announced that the U.S. government has been officially summoned to The Hague over Washington’s imposition of sanctions on Iran’s civilian aviation industry as well as banning sale of necessary airplane parts to Iran.

The U.S. move to impose sanctions on Iran’s aviation industry has not only violated the rights of many Iranian citizens, but is also an example of “crime against humanity” as it has led to the death of many people including elders, women, and children, a statement issued by Shahbazi’s lawyer stated.

It further said that Boeing’s sanctions on Iran were put in place as an excuse to avoid jeopardizing global peace and security, while governments are required to comply with international treaties (UN Charter, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, etc.), and customary international law or regulations and should not take such measures.
