TEHRAN -- The Second International Conference on Rumi plans to honor some scholars and artists who have worked on the Persian mystic and poet, Jalal al-Din Rumi, the organizers announced on Saturday.

Composer and tar virtuoso Hossein Alizadeh will be is among the artists. He performed a concert during Rumi’s 803rd birthday in Konya in September 2010. He also created some compositions on Rumi.

Alizadeh is scheduled to give a performance during the opening ceremony of the conference, which will be held at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University on September 27, just three days before Rumi’s birthday.

Master miniaturist Mahmud Farshchian, the creator of the masterpiece “Shams and Molana”, will also be commemorated at the conference.

Among the artists is stage director Pari Saberi, who directed “The Flying Shams” in Konya, home to the shrine of Rumi, on September 30, 2010. She had previously staged the play in Tehran, Paris and Rome.

The conference will also commemorate Amir-Hossein Shah-Khalili, Hossein Vahidi, Mahmud Bakhtiari and several other scholars.

Rumi’s 22nd niece Esin Celebi, who is the deputy director of the International Mevlana Foundation in Konya, has been invited to the meeting.

Experts on Persian literature from India, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan will also attend the conference.
