TEHRAN -- Prominent Polish graphic designer and illustrator Lech Majewski, whose works are on display at the Imam Ali (AS) Religious Arts Museum in Tehran, said the designs of the advertisements that he has seen during his stay in Iran are void of Persian style.

Speaking at a ceremony held in his honor by the Art and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality at the Museum Garden of Iranian Art on Saturday evening, he added, “I have looked at many posters but none of them enjoy a Persian style of work. I reminded the students in my workshops (held in Tehran and Shiraz) where the style, culture and nature of Iran stand in the Iranian posters.”

“This is my first trip to Iran and Iran is one of the main countries in the region. It is one of the first in several artistic activities such as typography,” Majewski added.

He also noted that in his trip to Shiraz where he held several workshops, he asked the students to design several posters for Iranian yogurt drink and called the event a good chance to display the posters in Iran and Poland.

Deputy Culture Minister for Artistic Affairs Ali Moradkhani, also attending the ceremony, in his brief speech said that Iran has a lot to offer in the art and culture arena.

“We need to boost our artistic activities in the international field and have active participation in world artistic events,” he added.

Mahmud Salahi of the Art and Cultural Organization of Tehran Municipality next handed a copy of the Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp, a rare copy of the epic masterpiece of Ferdowsi, the Shahnameh (The Book of Kings) to Majewski at the end of the ceremony.

The president of the Organizing Committee of the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw, Majewski, has held solo exhibitions in many countries including Brazil, Switzerland, Mexico, Finland, Holland, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Poland.

The exhibit will be running until December 10 at the museum located on Esfandiar Blvd., near the intersection with Vali-e Asr Ave. in northern Tehran.
