Iranian Woman Painter Wins UNESCO Silver Badge

TEHRAN Iranian painter Firouzeh Golmohammadi, who paints pictures for children books, won the silver badge of UNESCO 1998 Contests. The UNESCO prize is the highest international award ever granted to an Iranian woman painter. Golmohammadi participated in the competitions with her book The Elephant in the Dark Home. According to UNESCO, the biennial competitions have been held by the organization since 10 years ago.
Artists from 60 countries across the world presented some 614 works in the 1998 competitions. This shows a considerable increase in the number of participants in comparison with the previous years. The best works selected by the jury will be displayed at different art centers in the next two years. They will also be published and distributed on the international level.
The paintings in the book The Elephant in the Dark Home are based on the poems of the prominent Iranian poet Mowlavi. Golmohammadi has so far won 15 domestic and international prizes for her beautiful paintings in the children's books.
