MPs ask Expediency Council to return Palermo, money laundering bills

October 28, 2018 - 22:31

TEHRAN – Forty lawmakers have signed a letter to the chairman of the Expediency Council, asking him to return the bills on accession to the UNTOC, known as the Palermo Convention, and anti-money laundering act to the parliament.

In the open letter to Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the lawmakers criticized Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani for submitting the bills to the Expediency Council, which they said was illegal according to article 112 of the constitution, Tasnim reported on Sunday.

It comes after the parliament and the Guardian Council reached an impasse over the bills, which brought the Expediency Council to make the final decision.
