TEHRAN – After more than two years, Mohammad Bana took charge of Iran Greco-Roman wrestling team once again.

He was named as replacement of Ali Ashkani in the wrestling team by acting president of Iran’s Wrestling Federation Hamid Banitamim.

Bana is the most decorated coach in Iran’s Greco-Roman history.

Under leadership of Bana, Iranian Greco-Roman team claimed three gold medals and won the title of the 2012 Olympic Games for the first time ever.

After the poor performance of his team at Rio Olympics 2016, he said he felt "ashamed" toward the results and was seen sitting and crying outside the wrestling hall, the video and photos of which went viral in social media.

He was later quoted as saying he cried because he failed to make the Iranian people happy.

“Honestly, I didn’t want to return to the National Team but I think it’s time to help the team. We have a lot of work to do,” Bana said.

“I faced many obstacles in my career in the National Team but we have to learn from our mistakes if we want to avoid repeating them. We have a difficult task in the 2020 Olympic Games,” he added.
