TEHRAN - The sixth Joint Cooperation Committee meeting of Iran’s Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare and Qatar’s Ministry of Labor was held in Doha, Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday.

In the meeting, which was attended by the Iranian Minister of Cooperatives, Labor, and Social Welfare Solat Mortazavi and his Qatari counterpart Ali bin Samikh Al-Marri, the two sides discussed the development of technical and professional cooperation and exchanging and empowering technical trainers.

Facilitating the dispatch of skilled Iranian labor and engineers to Qatar, conducting joint visits for Iranian and Qatari labor inspectors to exchange common experiences, and forming a joint committee to help align the views and opinions of both sides were among the approvals of the mentioned meeting.

The parties also emphasized the need to take the necessary measures to implement the provisions of a previously signed cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU).

It was also decided for the seventh round of the committee meeting to be held in Tehran in mid-2024.

Back in June 2023, the Iranian and Qatari labor ministers urged increased cooperation in the fields of labor, employment, and skill training courses between the two countries in a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.

The meeting between Mortazavi and Ali bin Samikh Al-Marri came on the sidelines of the 111th session of the International Labor Conference in Geneva on June 10, 2023.

Al-Marri was elected as the rotating president of the International Labor Conference during the mentioned gathering.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar, especially on labor issues.

Mortazavi said in the meeting that the expansion of relations with Qatar is of strategic importance for the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that the two countries have adopted some valuable measures to cooperate in international forums.

Emphasizing the importance of expanding relations with Iran, Al-Marri said that his country would not forget Iran's support during the time that Qatar was under sanctions by some regional countries.

The Qatari minister added that he will pay a visit to Tehran to discuss increased cooperation between Iran and Qatar on the issue of labor.
