Tribal Rebels Kill 16 in Northeastern India

GUWAHATI, India Tribal guerrillas went on a rampage overnight, killing at least 16 people in the northeastern Indian State of Assam, officials said here Monday. Ten others were injured in two separate attacks on Sunday in the oil-rich Indian state bordering Myanmar. Militants from the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) raided a village in Tinsukia district, some 580 kilometers (360 miles) east of the state capital of Guwahati, and killed 11 villagers, including three women, AFP said.
