DCR operation by laser with no hemorrhage and incision first in Iran was done at 504 Army Hospital. Dacryocystorhinostomy or DCR is an operation which resolves tearing caused by obstruction of nasolacrimal duct. Nasolacrimal duct (N.L.D.) is a canal which connects the eye to the nose and drains the tear which is secreted in the eye to the nose and when it is obstructed, tear is accumulated in the eye and flows out.
Formerly DCR was done by a skin incision and mechanical bone removal which caused hemorrhage and skin scar. Now it is done through nose by laser and magnification of microscope for the first time in Iran. In contrast to the surgeons in other parts of the world who use endoscope for visualization of operation site, microscope is used here and with regarding to this aspect, it is unique.
