TEHRAN – Handicrafts artists are taking part in the 33rd International Holy Quran Exhibition, which is currently underway at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla in Tehran, a provincial official said on Tuesday.

Saeid Shahrokhi, deputy head of handicrafts at Tehran province’s Directorate General of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, said artists are actively participating in the exhibition, which runs from Feb. 21 to March 6.

“The presence of handicrafts artists at the exhibition provides an opportunity to introduce the capacities of traditional arts and to strengthen the connection between Quranic concepts and handicrafts,” Shahrokhi was quoted as saying.

According to him, artists specializing in engraving on precious and semi-precious stones are presenting works adorned with Quranic verses and Islamic motifs in the exhibition’s commercial section. He said the works have been welcomed by visitors.

In the workshop section, artists in pottery, illumination, glass fusion, wooden sculpture and mirror work are creating pieces inspired by Quranic verses in live sessions and explaining the production process to visitors, he added.

The 33rd International Holy Quran Exhibition is being held under the motto “Iran under the Protection of the Quran.” The event is open daily from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Organizers said the exhibition includes 11 thematic sections with cultural approaches and three commercial sections aimed at promoting the cultural economy. More than 70 sub-sections, specialized booths and side events have been arranged.

An independent section on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies has been launched this year, with six knowledge-based companies participating. Evening programs focus on AI-based Quranic content production, with outputs displayed daily for visitors.

The international section features invited countries including Indonesia, Egypt, Oman, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, China, Afghanistan, Algeria, Romania, Iraq, Bosnia, Kazakhstan and Tunisia.

The exhibition is held annually to promote Quranic culture and showcase the country’s artistic and media capacities.
