Pournejati: Justice Department Not Entitled to Ban Licensed Papers

TEHRAN Chairman of Majlis Commission for Cultural Affairs Ahmad Pournejati said on Sunday that the Justice Department is not entitled to ban the newspapers that have got license from the Press Supervisory Board.
He said if the Justice Department had objection to the performance of the Press Supervisory Board, it should refer to the state administrative court and is not allowed to take direct action against the newspaper.
Pournejati said according to the Press Law, the supervisory board is required to ask the Justice Department, the Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) and the Information Ministry about eligibility of applicants who registered with the Supervisory Board to publish a press.
But, if the Supervisory Board grants a license to a press , the Justice Department is not entitled to ban the press and it should refer to the state administrative court to protest against the Press Supervisory Board.
