BELGRADE Yugoslav basketball player Haris Brkic died overnight from injuries he sustained in a shooting earlier this week, Belgrade media reported on Friday.
An assailant approached the 26-year-old Partizan Belgrade point guard on Tuesday evening and fired two shots in his face from point blank range with a small-caliber hand gun.
Brkic was getting into his car after a training session in Belgrade's Pionir Hall, the home of his club. Police have not offered any information on a possible motive.
Brkic joined Partizan a week ago for his second spell there. He was one of its leading players from 1993 to 1999 before joining Yugoslav champions Buducnost Podgorica.
