BEIJING Vice president of Chinese Theology College expressed his willingness for student exchange program with Iran and said Chinese students are willing to continue their study in Iranian universities and theological colleges . Cong En Lin who is the educational deputy of the college said, they are waiting for such a day, but for time being they do not have any official ties with Iranian universities . "We have cultural ties with Al Azhar University of Egypt and Islamabad College," said Cong who has chosen Abdulwahhab as his Islamic name . This college was established in 1955 under the then prime minister and Chinese Muslim Association. It was shut down during the cultural revolution like any other educational institute in China and was reopened in 1980. The college conducts graduate and undergraduate courses and there are 640 graduates from this college. Currently there are 90 students studying in this college and they will finish undergraduate course in 5 years, said Abdulwahhab. Conditions to enter this college is high school degree, Chinese language and love for this subject, he added. Mohammad, a fourth year student of the college said that Islam and living in this college is very meaningful. He believes that study can help Chinese youth Muslims help solve the problem of the other Muslims in China. "Purpose of studying theology is to develop ourselves religiously and culturally because theology is spiritual," said Nouh a third year student in an interview with IRNA. Mosa, another Muslim student in the college pointed out that in order to increase the religious knowledge of the Chinese students there should be bilateral relations between this college and the Iranian universities and Islamic institutes. He said that by reviewing the history of Islam in China, "We can see that learning Persian was essential to learning about Islam and even nowadays Chinese Muslims use a lot of Persian words and phrases in their religious affairs. Long time ago Persian traders introduced Islam to China through the Silk Road and since then Persian was the main language to learn about Islam. Since 1982 Chinese Muslims Association has send many students to Egypt, Pakistan and Libya to study Islam. In 1985, Islamic Development Bank give a loan to this association to build three religious school and one Arabic school. (IRNA)
