Violation of Law in Prison?
The Chairman of the Majlis' Judicial and Legal Committee Abdolnasser Qavami was quoted yesterday as saying that violations are there' in prisons of Iran.
Last month the Judiciary Chief Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi ruled against the use of torture on any inmate for any reason or the solitary confinement of prisons,' according to an IRNA report.
The concerned officials in the prisons must not forget that one of the causes of the present revolution was the nasty prison of the Shah where notorious SAVAK agents, trained in Israel, used to torture those who raised their voice against despotic rule of the time.
No revolutionary figure will believe that the Shah's ghost still haunts the Evin Prison. History still bears witness that the top officials of the Islamic Republic -- those who are still holding office or those who are resting in heaven -- have been subject to the torture of SAVAK.
We are sure that while those topnotch revolutionary figures were being tortured in the prison they have surely vowed that prison in post-revolutionary Iran would serve as an educational institute to correct the inmates.
Still there is time, even the slightest misdeed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic must be removed. The past is past, the prison officials must clean their slate.
Violations of the law, torture or solitary confinement, as referred by the Judiciary head must be addressed by the concerned officials today, for tomorrow will be too late.
