Radcliffe Too Strong for Tulu in the Snow

LONDON Paula Radcliffe of Britain maintained her dazzling end-of-year form by easily beating Olympic 10,000 meters champion Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia in the great north cross-country run at Consett, County Durham, on Saturday.

Radcliffe dominated the snowbound 6km race from the start and finished completely on her own in a time of 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

Tulu, three times the world cross-country champion, was more than a minute adrift of the winner in second place. Britain's Kathy Butler came third.

Radcliffe's latest win followed her gold medal in the world half-marathon in Mexico last month and her victory in the great north run road race run between Newcastle and South Shields in October.
