SYDNEY Iranian Presidential Advisor for Press Affairs, Hadi Khaniki, currently in Australia for a four-day official visit, reviewed expansion of Tehran-Canberra scientific and cultural cooperation with a number of Australian officials.

In a meeting with the Australian Minister of Education, Training and Youth Affairs, Steve Sdedgwick, he called for an exchange of cultural and scientific experiences by the two countries.

In a related development, Khaniki and deputy Australian Minister of Immigration Bill Farmer discussed problems facing immigrants and their two countries' policies on refugees.

Khaniki, who is also deputy minister of science, research and technology, also met on separate occasions with the chancellors of several Australian universities which included the National, Queensland and New South Wales universities.

Scientific cooperation between the Iranian and Australian universities as well as plans for Australian universities to open a university in Iran's Kish Island were reviewed during the meetings.

In other developments, Khaniki met with Iranian students living in Australia and gave answers to questions raised by these students.

Khaniki left here on Sunday for Malaysia where he will meet with the country's educational official and scientific figures.
