Whose Interests Are the Italian MPs Serving?

Iran is a powerful, influential country of the Middle East, Persian Gulf, and Central Asia regions. This is why it has numerous friends and few enemies in the family of nations.

The friends of Iran are interested in its friendship because of mutual interests, while its enemies are hostile to it because of two reasons: (I) they are influenced by international Zionism and try to isolate Iran through their animosity; and (II) they are hostile to Iran because they are hostile to any independent country in the world.

Some 300 Italian MPs signed a petition on Thursday opposing the forthcoming visit of the Italian Prime Minister, Giuliano Amato to Iran.

First of all let us have a look at the motives of the MPs who have singed the petition. The main issue they have raised in their petition is the condition of human rights. But the problem is that they are relying on the disinformation provided to them by a bunch of fugitives whose hands are stained with the blood of hundreds of innocent Iranian nationals. The same group which is feeding these lies to the Italian MPs is on the terrorist list of the United States and Britain. If the Italian MPs who have signed the petition are so naive that they are easily fooled by a terrorist group, what can the Italian nation - whom they represent - expect from such simpletons?

If they have prepared and signed the petition under the influence of the Zionist regime, they have committed treason against their own national interests, for writing such a petition at a time when their Prime Minister is paying an official visit to Iran will definitely not serve their interests; on the contrary, it will undermine their national interests.

We consider Italy a friendly partner. We are aware that there is factional fighting in that country between various parties. This is why the Italian government did not heed the petition and announced "the trip will go ahead" despite the petition.

However, we do understand why a party would sacrifice its own national interests at the altar of factional gains. If they are under the influence of international Zionism, we are sorry for them . If they are not, they must stop such nonsensical measures and apologize to the Iranian nation.

Commenting on the reason for writing such a petition, a member of Parliament, Reza Yousefian, said that two groups, one in Iran and one abroad, are trying to mar Iran-Italy relations. The internal group is trying to isolate Iran and is prepared to pay any price from the public purse to achieve its goal. The advocates of this approach believe that their interests will be maintained if Iran is isolated. Another group is the one based outside but following the same strategy.

Commenting on the same issue, another MP, Ja'far Golbaz, said that such events are not unexpected. It is natural that some countries like the United States and Israel try to create hurdles in the way of our relations with the European countries, particularly Italy, because it plays an important role in Europe.

You see, "The expansion of ties with Iran, will be firstly in the interest of Italy," Golbaz said. The Italian MPs who have signed the petition must come to Iran and closely observe Iran's human rights record. Having a few political prisoners does not mean that Iran is violating human rights. Goblaz also lambasted the pressure groups inside the country who try to tarnish Iran's image by attacking the meetings.
