"Blackboards" to Be Screened in Tokyo

TEHRAN The Iranian film **** Blackboards **** by Samira Makhmalbaf will be screened in Tokyo, Japan, this week.

A Japanese paper published a review of **** Blackboards ****, saying that the film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival in France.

Samira Makhmalbaf is the youngest director ever to win a prize at the Cannes International Film Festival for her second film **** Blackboards ****.

She is the 20-year-old daughter of the renowned Iranian director Mohsen Makhmalbaf.

Samira Makhmalbaf's first film **** Apple **** was previously screened in Tokyo International Film Festival.

The Japanese paper quoted this young director as saying that when Iranian films preserve their cultural values, they will be able to compete with Western films and achieve successs on the international scene.
