KISH, Hormuzgan Prov. Secretary of the Free Trade Zones Supreme Council, Hossein Nassiri, said here Wednesday that globalization is inevitable and must be met with appropriate strategies to avail of its benefits.

Nassiri told reporters on the sidelines of a global seminar on "The Internet and Electronic Cities" held in Kish that Iran cannot shun globalization and stay isolated because of its strategic location.

He said the demands of globalization require an appropriate environment which is met by free zones because of their unique role as promoters of the national economy.

He added that important projects to develop the country are currently underway in the country's free zones with the aim of making them more responsive to its economic needs, adding that providing access to the Internet is one of the measures taken toward this end.

Nassiri said that a million jobs can easily be created, directly or indirectly, from E-business if it gains more acceptance, and the brain drain would also be minimized to some extent.

He said software is the driving engine of national development that would harness the potential in other economic fields as well.

He said that the "Internet City" project is being launched for the first time in Kish. "It will be a small project but will be successful," he added.
