TEHRAN Some Western countries have recently passed laws in order to curb the activities of Islamic groups, especially those which defend the struggles of the Palestinians or the Algerians.

The United States of America, Canada and Britain are among those countries that detain Muslims based on secret evidence, while at the same time they support the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO).

Meanwhile, Canadian Muslims have asked the Supreme Court of the country to consider a new law presented to the Parliament. The law intends to prohibit fund-raising for Muslim fighters.

The daily **** National Post **** wrote on Friday that Canada's Islamic Congress sent a letter to the Supreme Court and the Parliament calling the proposed law, named C-6, dictatorial and in disharmony with Canada's Constitution.

The proposed law is still generating controversy in the Parliament. Some are opposed to granting the government the authority to restrict the activities of legitimate charity groups through labeling them.

According to the proposed law, based on security and intelligence information, the governor general and the minister for revenue are allowed to undermine the financial credit of those institutions considered to be fund-raisers for terrorists.

The report of the two centers would then be sent to the Federal court where a judge is authorized to issue a verdict stripping the institutes of their tax-exempt charity status.

Various reports have recently been issued about the fund-raising activities of groups such as Hizbollah, Hamas, Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the Tamil Tigers.

In the letter, the lawyer of Canada's Islamic Congress referred to the proposed law as inappropriate, racist and anti-Muslim. After signing the United Nations resolution last year, Canada is bound to ratify the law prohibiting terrorist groups from fund-raising.
