BRISBANE One of the Siamese twins born in a Brisbane hospital died after emergency surgery to separate them on Saturday, while its sister was in critical condition, doctors said Sunday as carried by DPA. Doctors at Royal Hospital said the infant girl, Bethany Nolan, had neither a bladder nor any kidneys and had been suffering from high blood pressure. Originally doctors had planned surgery to try to separate the three-week-old twins at some point between the age of six and 12 months. But as Bethany's condition deteriorated, with a heart attack on Friday, an emergency operation was ordered. The still surviving twin, Alyssa, was suffering from either a brain infection or a brain hemorrhage. The two girls had shared several larger arteries in the brain.
