Language Day Celebrated in Tajikistan

TEHRAN -- On the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the approval of the Tajikistan language law, different ceremonies were held throughout the country on Sunday.

Intellectuals, scholars and ordinary people attended different ceremonies and praised Language Day in the country.

Tajikistan language law was approved on people's request 12 years ago in 1989, according to which the Persian-Tajik language was announced as the official language.

Despite social and economic problems caused by civil war during the past 12 years in Tajikistan the law has been applied to a great extend.

Using Tajik language in cultural and science centers of Tajikistan has increased.

Last week Tajik intellectuals in a conference criticized the incomplete enforcement of the use of Persian Tajik in Tajikistan especially in government organizations.

Also, they stressed for complete enforcement of Persian language in the government organizations and TV programs.

Recently most of the Tajikistan official TV programs that has a 70 percent Persian language viewers has been using Russian language in its programs.

Tajik President Amomali Rakhmonov in a message congratulated the people on language day and stressed the necessity of strengthening Tajik language status as the public language in social, economic and political sections.
