WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon has decided to reimburse China about 34,000 dollars for the costs incurred during the three-month seizure of a U.S. navy surveillance plane, including the care of a 24-member crew that was detained for 11 days, Pentagon officials said Thursday. "The check is in the mail," said a Pentagon official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Rear Admiral Craig Quigley, a Pentagon spokesman, confirmed that a payment was on the way to Beijing but would not say how much. A second Pentagon official said the amount was about 34,000 dollars, much less than the estimated one million dollars demanded by China to cover costs incurred while it held the EP-3 aircraft earlier this year.
