BANGKOK -- Thousands of identical Thai twins gathered in Bangkok only to miss making their mark in the Guinness Book of World Records but officials of the Twins Club of Thailand (TCT) vowed to try again next year.
Vithoon Chommarueng, organizer of the "World Twins Record" event, said 2,443 pairs of Thai twins responded to the club's invitation to meet at the Dream World Theme Park in Bangkok to set a world record for a gathering of the largest number of identical twins.
"Our research shows Thailand has 4,000 to 5,000 pairs of twins. But our one-week public relations for this event might be rather limited and our financial inducement for participants may be not that attractive," Vithoon told Reuters.
He said prizes for oldest and youngest twins were 3,000 baht ($69.90) each.
Taiwan holds the current Guinness Book record of organizing the biggest party for 3,961 pairs of twins back in 1999.
