TEHRAN -- One of the commanders of Iran's ground forces in the triumphant 'Fath-ul-Mubin' Operations and a disabled war veteran Brigadier-General Amrollah Shahbazi passed away in a Tehran hospital Saturday, Army's public relations office said in a statement Sunday.

Brigadier Shahbazi had been awarded the 'Medal of Victory' by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei for his valor and intrepid deeds during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war of 1980-1988.

He was buried in Tehran's 'Behesht-e Zahra' cemetery later Sunday.

'Fath-ul-Mubin' was one of Iran's most successful military operations by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Iran's Army in 1982 to release south-western parts of Khuzestan province from under Iraqi occupation.
