TEHRAN -- Iran values highly the Russia position in the international battle against terrorism taken after the September 11 events, Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said at a press conference Sunday.

The Russian position promotes peace and stability in the Caspian region and aims at securing stability in neighboring countries, the minister said.

"We are glad to note the similarity of our opinions on many international issues, including the situation in Iraq," he said.

"At the same time, we would call on Moscow to take a more active stance", noted the Iranian official.
