AHVAZ, Khuzestan Prov. - Damages estimated at eight billion rials have been inflicted on farmlands in Dasht-e-Azadegan district in this southwestern province over the past few days as the River Karkheh burt its banks and flooded the surrounding areas. Head of the headquarters in charge of floods in Dasht-e-Azadegan, Jalil Jasempour, said here on Wednesday that more than 7,000 hectares of farmlands have been washed away by the floods.
Jasempour said that the headquarters is busy repairing banks of the River Karkheh. He said that water in Karkheh now stands at 6.67 meters, adding that besides damaging regional farmlands, roads have also been cut by the floods. (IRNA)
