Pakistan Links Sending Troops to Iraq With National Interests
"We will send troops after taking the nation and the parliament into confidence," Jamali said late Thursday after his return from his maiden trip to United States.
He said Islamabad would study the new U.S.-sponsored resolution on Iraq being debated in the United Nations.
"We will look into it, but rest assured the decision to send troops to Iraq will take into consideration our national interests," Jamali said.
Pakistan has previously said it would be willing to send troops to Iraq provided it was under the auspices of the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Counties or the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Pakistan, Washington's key ally in the U.S.-led global war on terror, is one of 10 non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. It had opposed the invasion of Iraq.
