MADRID (Xinhua) -- Spain's National Police on Friday released the former Argentine president, 75-year-old Maria Estela Martinez also known as Isabel Peron, on bail, shortly after being arrested.

The arrest came after an Argentine judge issued an international arrest warrant against her in a case involving the disappearance of a young man in 1976, who rights groups say, was last seen being taken into custody by security officials.

Spain's top criminal court ordered the 75-year-old former leader to be provisionally released after Isabel gave a half-hour statement.

Judge Juan del Olmo said that there was little risk that the old lady would flee the country, but ordered her to come back to court within 15 days or face house arrest.

Peron, the widow of Argentina's former President Juan Domingo Peron, has been living in Spain since 1981. She became president in 1974 after the death of her husband, and was ousted in 1976 in a military coup. Meanwhile, the Argentine government promised that "there will be no impunity deal" for what they described as "state terrorism."
