Seyed Hamid Mowlana is one of the founders and distinguished figures of the field of Communication and International Relations in the world.
He has taught as full professor in many universities around the world for 40 years and has established the major of International Relations in Washington D.C.During this period, he has chaired high-level association of International Communiaction Program in Washington D.C.
Prof Mowlana considers Iran’s Islamic revolution and breakup of the Soviet Union as two major events of contemporary history that the former led to the revival of Islamic identity and the latter gave rise to thought crisis and ethnic division in the West.
He believes in the spiritual expansion of relations and maintains that what the world needs now is not “dialogue among civilizations” but is “civilized dialogues” without which true and honest relations cannot take shape. In fact, civilized dialogue is the most valuable civilization.
Biography Hamid Mowlana, born in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan, Iran is Professor of International Relations and the founding director of the International Communication Program at the School of International Service, American University, Washington, D.C.
He has been on the faculty of American University since 1968, and has served as visiting professor and guest scholar in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
He completed his undergraduate studies in economics (1959) and received his M.S. in Journalism (1960) and his Ph.D. in Communication and Political Science (1963) from Northwestern University.
