TEHRAN (FNA) - Iran plans to set up and increase entanglements at its northwestern borders by this March, Head of Iran's Frontier Police Major General Ghasem Rezaie announced on Saturday.

""We are trying to accomplish the plan for establishing entanglements in the northwestern borders of the country by the end of the (current Iranian) year,"" Rezaie told FNA, adding that blocking borders in the northwestern and southeastern country sets the priority for Iran in the current year.
He further stated that setting up border entanglements in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan is also continued at present.
Rezaei reiterated that the Iranian frontier guards are now capable of controlling 75% of the northwestern and 80% of eastern borders.
In the meantime, Iranian Police Chief Brigadier General Ismail Ahmadi Moqaddam had said in May that Iran's eastern borders with Afghanistan, Pakistan and its western borders with Iraq and Turkey are somehow chaotic and added that Iran's long water borders in the south could also pose threats to the country if not tightly controlled.
Ahmadi Moqaddam had also stated that Iran's police troops have tightened surveillance and control operations along the country's borders.
