Book City to spotlight modern Austrian literature

TEHRAN – Tehran’s Book City Institute plans to turn the spotlight on modern Austrian literature in a session to be held on Tuesday.
Australian writer Karin Peschka and Persian translator of German literature Ali-Asghar Haddad are scheduled to attend the session, which also will review Peschka’s acclaimed novel “Watschenmann”.

Published in 2014, the novel is about events that occurred in Vienna after World War II.



U.S. filmfest to screen “Distorted Memories of a Lake”

TEHRAN – Iranian filmmaker Seyyed Vahid Hosseini-Nami’s short film “Distorted Memories of a Lake” will go on screen at the Wiper Film Festival, a New York-based online competition which will be running from January 15 to 17, 2016.

Produced by the Iranian Young Cinema Society, the movie set in 2029 gives a forecast for the destiny of some desperate people who live near dried-out lakes.


Iranian Artists Forum hosting tazieh performances

TEHRAN – The Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) is playing host to performances of tazieh (Iranian passion play) during ten nights of Muharram.

The plays mark the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions against the Umayyad dynasty’s oppression in 680 CE.


“Two” to compete in Estonian festival

TEHRAN – Iranian director Soheila Golestani’s debut feature film “Two” will go on screen at the 19th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, which will be held in the Estonian city from November 13 to 29.

“Two” is about Bahman who returns home years after living abroad to sell his father’s house. He meets a woman who appears to lend a hand.
