TEHRAN – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has said that close cooperation with Syrian people and government is Iran’s strategy.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s strategy is close and comprehensive cooperation with the Syrian government and people to establish stability, peace and security in the region [the Middle East region,” he wrote in a message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to congratulate successful holding of Syria’s parliamentary election.

He said that the Syrians’ participation in the election in spite of all the extreme pressure exerted by the terrorist groups indicates the Syrian people’s support for Assad as a symbol of “resistance” against the terrorists’ aggression.

“I am sure that we will soon witness defeat of the extremist and terrorist groups in the light of the Syrian government and people’s resistance,” he said.

Parliamentary elections were held in Syria to elect the People’s Council on 13 April 2016.
