1395 is year of economy for Iran, VP says
TEHRAN - Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri said on Monday the year 1395 is of paramount importance for the Iranian economy and the government will do its best to strengthen domestic production.
The Iranian calendar year 1395 began March 20.
Jahangiri told this to the press upon his arrival to the western province of Kermanshah, reminding the naming of 1395 by the Supreme Leader as the year of “Resistance economy, action, and implementation.”
“On the government’s economic agenda are domestic production boost, exports development, and privatization of unfinished development projects,” Jahangiri stated.
In order to implement the economic agenda, he said, the banking system, National Development Fund, and Management and Planning Organization should team up to re-start stagnant projects.
Domestic production has taken the brunt of the past stagflation years, Jahangiri noted, implicitly hinting at the Ahmadinejad administration during which Iran saw the inflation rate swell to more than 40 percent.
This is while over the same time expansion, oil prices touched more than $100 per barrel, bringing in colossal sums for the country and ironically, Iran fared the worst in economy.
Iran is just emerging from economic sanctions imposed by Western powers, particularly the U.S, after the nuclear deal, dubbed the JCPOA.
The country expects rapid economic growth as much as 5 percent in 2016, while according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) April report, Iran’s economic growth is forecasted to grow by 4 percent in 2016 and by 3.7 percent in 2017.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the vice president highlighted the key role to be played by private sector, saying, “Private sector should enter the scene to the full… In the year 1395 key plans in water, railways, oil, power, and agriculture have been prioritized.”
Some of these plans will be implemented in Kermanshah province, he added.
During his Kermanshah visit, Jahangiri and Industry Minister Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh opened the biggest commercial bread production unit in western Iran, creating job for as many as 600 people.
Also, the officials inaugurated two storage dams in the province.
