TEHRAN -- Artists and members of Iranian cinema gathered at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) on Thursday to pay tribute to the recently-deceased actress Parvindokht Yazdanian.
Yazdanian, famous for her role as grandma Bibi in the TV series “The Stories of Majid” directed by her son Kiumars Purahmad, died on March 24. She died of natural causes at the age of 89 in Isfahan.
The series was based on a book by the same name written by prominent children’s book author Hushang Moradi Kermani and told the story of an ambitious teenage boy who lived with his grandma Bibi in Isfahan.
A group of veterans, critics, authors and filmmakers attended the ceremony where several figures including IAF Director Majid Sarsangi and Purahmad spoke.
Sarsangi began by saying that Bibi could find a place in everyone’s heart, “the nobility of Bibi and the simplicity and the respect found in her appearances were what actresses need years to strive for.”
“We have lost our Bibi but we are comforted by recalling our old memories of the series ‘The Stories of Majid’ any time we miss her,” said cinema critic Hushang Golmakani, also present at the ceremony.
Bibi’s son Purahmad next spoke briefly, expressing his thanks to all the participants at the memorial ceremony.
“I am one of Bibi’s 12 children. All the children and grandchildren especially my sister Turan had a big role in nursing my mom.
“This woman was my mom. She always played her roles well. She was an ordinary woman and could find her place in people’s hearts easily. She will always be with us and her memoirs will always be remembered,” he said.
Bibi had also played in several movies, some of which were directed by her son including “Yalda Night” and “Morning of the Next Day”.
The memorial ceremony continued with screening three short films about different stages of Bibi’s life.
Filmmakers Bahman Farmanara, Maziar Miri, Mohammadreza Honarmand and Hasan Fat’hi as well as actors Reza Kianian and Amin Tarokh and author Moradi Kermani were seen among the participants.
