TEHRAN -- Shahrdad Rohani, the conductor of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, has called Italian maestro Riccardo Muti’s to Iran a great honor for the Iranian music world.

Muti, who is in Iran at the invitation of Rohani, will conduct a joint concert by musicians from the Giovanile Luigi Cherubini Orchestra and the Tehran Symphony Orchestra at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall today.

“It is a great honor that Muti will be conducting a joint orchestra here in Tehran and later in Italy. This will be a turning point in the recent activities of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra,” Rohani told the Persian service of MNA on Wednesday.

The Tehran concert is scheduled to be repeated at the Pala de André Center in the Italian city of Ravenna on Saturday.

“Today we are happy to be hosting an outstanding musician and that he has agreed to conduct a concert here in Tehran,” he noted.

“I am sure the foreign audience will also enjoy seeing a performance by the Tehran Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Muti in an international festival in Italy,” he added.

Music students will have a chance to enjoy the general performance of the orchestra on Thursday morning at 11 at Vahdat Hall for free.
