TEHRAN – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi who was on a tour of Latin America has said that the U.S. unilateral policies are a threat to international peace and security.

“The U.S. unilateral policies and violation of international pacts, especially the JCPOA [the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action], are manifestations of hegemonic policies and are threat against international peace and security,” he said during a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza in Caracas, Mehr news agency reported on Saturday.

Sarmadi said it is necessary to counter the U.S. policies.

For his part, Arreaza supported Iran’s position in countering hegemonic policies.

On May 8, President Donald Trump officially withdrew the U.S. from the UN-endorsed nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and plans to reintroduce sanctions on Iran.
