TEHRAN The Circle, a dark Iranian movie about the oppression of women, was the critics' choice to win the prestigious Golden Lion Award at the close of the Venice Film Festival on Saturday.
Twenty films were competing for the prize, to be awarded by a jury headed by Oscar-winning Czech Director Milos Forman. The announcement was scheduled at around 9 p.m. (1900 GMT), Reuters reported.
One of 12 films will also win a $100,000 prize for best directorial debut.
Spanish Actor Javier Bardem is tipped for best actor's prize, critics said, for his starring role in Before Night Falls, in which he plays the Cuban novelist and Poet Reinaldo Arenas, whose work was censored by communist Cuba.
