Tehran supports Muslim nations in confronting Israel’s ‘terrorizing’ violence: Araghchi

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has reiterated Tehran’s unwavering support for Muslim nations confronting the “Israeli scourge” terrorizing the region.

His comments come amid heightened tensions following Israeli missile strikes in Doha targeting Palestinian resistance leaders.

Posting on his X account Monday, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s solidarity with Qatar and the broader Muslim world. “We are here to deliver the Iranian people’s clear message of support to all Muslim nations against the scourge threatening the region,” he said. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is also scheduled to participate in the Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, convened in response to Israel’s latest regional provocations.

The strikes in Doha, carried out on September 9 by Israel, targeted Hamas leaders engaged in discussions over a U.S.-proposed plan to end the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza. While key Hamas figures survived, five Gaza-based resistance members and a Qatari security officer were killed. The attacks have drawn international condemnation for violating Qatari sovereignty and international law.

‘Muslim nations must take effective and collective action to counter Israel’s aggression’

Araghchi called on Muslim nations to take “effective and collective” action to counter Israel’s aggression, end the ongoing violence in Gaza, and hold Israeli leaders accountable. His statements came during a Sunday meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani on the sidelines of a preparatory session of the summit.

Al Thani praised Iran’s steadfast solidarity with Qatar and urged Muslim and Arab nations to intensify efforts to support the Palestinian people and resist Israeli hegemony. Qatar, in coordination with the United States and Egypt, has been mediating negotiations aimed at halting the Israeli offensive in Gaza, which has claimed over 64,000 Palestinian lives, predominantly women and children, since October 2023.

Meeting with Pakistani counterpart

Araghchi met with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, where both officials strongly condemned Israel’s attacks on Doha and other Muslim countries as violations of sovereignty, international law, and the UN Charter.

They emphasized the role of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in reinforcing Muslim unity at a critical juncture.

Bilateral talks with Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Somalia, and Egypt

In addition to bilateral meetings with Pakistan, Araghchi held talks with foreign ministers from Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, Somalia, and Egypt to discuss regional security, coordination, and diplomatic strategies aimed at containing Israeli aggression. Together with Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji, he urged the international community to take immediate steps to halt Israeli military operations in Gaza, Lebanon, and the wider region.
