NEW DELHI A scaly brown pangolin created a wave of panic in a western Indian town when a guard on duty at a local post office mistook it for a dinosaur, reports said Sunday. The guard in Viramgam town who had seen dinosaurs only in books and movies and had no clue that they had become extinct millions of years ago raised a hue and cry Friday on sighting the ant-eating animal, the Indian Express newspaper reported.
This attracted a large and equally ignorant crowd which pelted the pangolin, an animal protected under Indian wildlife laws, with stones and injured it. Huge crowds kept coming to have a look at the "dinosaur" until it was taken away by wildlife officials and released in a nearby forest.
