TEHRAN — The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that it is prepared to respond to any threat at a level that ensures deterrence, according to a statement issued by its public relations office.

The statement, released in response to recent remarks by the U.S. president, rejected as "completely baseless" claims that the IRGC intends to target desalination facilities in the region.

It added that, in contrast, the U.S. military had initiated hostilities by targeting civilians and has so far struck five water-related infrastructure sites, including a desalination facility on Qeshm Island, while the IRGC has never retaliated in kind.

The IRGC also pointed to threats by the U.S. president to attack Iran’s power plants, warning that such strikes would disrupt vital services, including hospitals, emergency response centers, and water supply networks, and would constitute an inhumane act.

The statement said that if Iran’s power plants are targeted, Tehran would respond in kind by striking Israel’s power facilities, as well as power plants in the region that supply electricity to U.S. bases and infrastructure in which U.S. companies and entities have a stake.

"You attacked our hospitals, relief centers, and schools; we did not. But if you hit electricity, we will hit electricity," the statement said.

It concluded by emphasizing that Iran is determined to respond to any threat at a level that creates deterrence, adding that the United States underestimates Iran’s capabilities and "will see them on the ground."
