MOSCOW A radiation leak has been discovered at a nuclear power plant in Novoronezh, southern Russia, a source in the Energy Ministry said Tuesday cited by Interfax news agency.
Above normal radiation levels were registered during checks around a water pipe serving two of the five reactors, type VVAR-210 and VVAR-365, which were taken out of operation in 1988 and 1990 respectively, the source added.
The surrounding area was sealed off and testing is being carried out on the air, water and soil, AFP said yesterday.
The Novoronezh Plant's five nuclear reactors were built in the 1960s. Only three are still in service.
