TEHRAN Iran closed down its Red Crescent Society office in Sarajevo, said an official of the society Alireza Salehi.

Talking to the TEHRAN TIMES, Salehi said that during clashes in Bosnia-Herzegovina, medical services for the injured were necessary and we helped them there.

He said our position is that wherever any crisis emerges or natural disasters break out, we will be there to help people.

In Sarajevo, however, peace and calm has prevailed and a lawful government established, he said, and added that therefore there is no need to have a branch there.

Salehi said since people in Sarajevo have become self-sufficient in medical treatment, they do not need foreign clinics as those of Iran.

The closure of the RCS in Sarajevo has been done in collaboration with the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Society.

He said Bosnia-Herzegovina warmly welcomed Iran's Red Crescent Society in Sarajevo, yet Iran closed its office because its sees no necessity for being there.
